Ranthambhore: March 8th-9th

Katherine and took another Weekend adventure to Ranthambhore to go on a Tiger Safari!

Though Ranthambhore is a pretty boring town, we actually saw a tiger on our morning safari!!!!!

The tiger was sleeping far away from the jeep road, but I did see the orange and black stripes of his backside— despite my horrendous eyesight!!!!!!!

I can now say I have seen one of the last living tigers in the wild— check!!!!

Pushkar: March 1st-2nd

Katherine, Milena (my other other roommate from Germany), Katherine (another Volunteer from German), and I took a weekend trip to see Pushkar and do a camel safari.

Pushkar might be my favorite place in India so far because it is so laid back, quiet, and draws in a hippie crowd.

Our safari was a 2 day/ 1 night

Pushkar is one of two locations in Indian with a Brahman Temple— Brahman is the Hindu god referred to as “The Generator”. At Pushkar’s heart is a man-made holy lake. We sat and had lunch near the edge of the lake and watched as many Hindus came and bathed in the lake to cleanse their souls.

On the way back from the Elephant Village my project executive, Didi, took me on a detour to stop and visit one of her friends in the slums.

The sight of all the trash piled up and shoved in ever nook and corner is one I know I will never forget.

While holding a 13 day old infant (who was born prematurely), I was forced to except that this little girl would probably never know anything besides the slums-- it was heartbreaking.
